Well I've seen the last episode and it looks like the series will now be going in a new direction.

British TV is no better than American TV. And their shows definitely don't "push storylines farther" since, with shorter seasons, they don't have to.

The BBC is more free to address things in a more mature way than American network TV is, yes, and the point about the two versions of Life on Mars is relevant, but American non-network TV can and does do the same.

Primeval, using the on-topic example, would've been canceled in America by now, because it's just not good enough.

British TV is better written than US TV so there. tongue.gif

Are they even going to try for a fourth series?
DarthMarley
How can they not?

Even when the economic crisis was causing a budget hit, the ITV folk were looking for Hollywood $ to make a fourth season.

I suppose... the show's just starting to seem a little aimless, that's all.

That's to lull you into a false sense of complancy.

A bit of a spoiler

Three team members are stuck in different times after they go after Helen, which I'm willing to admit how they managed to follow her was complete crap, but apart from that it was a good episode. I will give you the total breakbown of what happened below

Another Spoiler if you really want to know what happens to whom.

The Danny Quinn character is stuck about 4 million years ago after Helen was killed after trying to kill the first humaniod's (the raptor that tracked Quinn attacked her and they both fell).
Conner and Abbie are stuck about 70 million years ago as when they were following Helen they interupted 3 young raptors and conner twisted his ankle and Abbie was going to stay with him because he most likely wouldn't last.
Becker and Sarah are waiting in the present for the team to return.
Where Helen got all of her stuff from was from a future version of the ARC.

Hmm... despite liking the G-Rex episode (for the most part), I feel strangely compelled to write the following:

Primeval: the BSG of British television.
RaiderDave2112
I hope that there is a fourth season as I do like the series.

Primeval never pretended to be anything other than light adventure television.

No grand sermons about how the writing 'really holds a mirror up to us" or any crap like taht which causes it to be so harshly judged.

Not what I was referring to... I don't mind the light adventure (quite like it, actually), but the writing is inconsistent and it follows much of the BSG style of obviating previous stories. That gets annoying.
RaiderDave2112
So farewell then Primeval, it was nice to know yea.

The producers are going to see if they can end the story by another means though.

In case anyone is wondering, it was cancelled in favour of post watershed drama.

Yeah, that seems a bit odd. You would think ITV would've tried to bring in an American company as a co-producer, and then just make a show for both sides of the Atlantic.
DarthMarley
The production comapny was trying to get US participatin.

They started that hunt several months ago in fact.

IMO the series will continue via books or graphic novels as that will be the cheapest option for the producers.

It wouldn't suprise me if ITV haven't sold the rights to the show to a US production company where they can either remake the series or they can have the US team from the same universe as the ARC in the UK, just shown from the US research centre.

Yeah, but US participation for the UK version, or a new US version? I recall reading about trying to develop an American version of the show, as well as selling the movie rights, but my point was that they should've done the BSG S1 thing and made one show... probably would've required some sort of mock "re-boot" for the US net, but it could've worked.

I'm sure this will happen, but it would've happened anyway. And cheaper in this instance also means far less lucrative.

I'm thinking some sort of feature film.
WolfeFPS
Honestly, if the show hadn't already been canceled, I'd have deleted it from the DVR list after that last crap episode (the terror birds in the log cabin one).

Ugh.
WolfeFPS
And it just gets worse. ITV's decision is no longer surprising me.
WolfeFPS
Yeah, so I just watched the finale. It was decent... not good enough to save the show, though.

I can see a Brit TV movie wrapping things up.
WolfeFPS
Oh, and somebody PLEASE kill Becker.

A TV movie to finish the story would be good but IMO I just don't see happening for a number of reasons i.e. budget, cast and crew etc although stranger things have happened.

Last I heard the BBC was interested in picking it up!

That would be interesting.

As long as they kill Becker.

Too be honest, I don't think the BBC will pick it up, as the reports may have confused the BBC with BBC America and BBC Worldwide both of which handle British TV from both the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 for export.

Meh, who cares? Just kill Becker!
RaiderDave2112
So there are 2 new series of the show being commissioned, these will be a joint venture with BBC America and a German Station and 2 other stations I believe. The new series will be shot in Ireland and series 4 will be 7 episodes and series 5 will be 6 episodes.
koenigrules
And Becker will return!
But the one I'm really interested in is Abby!!!!
THIS IS GREAT NEWS! More Primeval!
Can you say T-REX?????!!!!!!!
