Filk is a science fiction and fantasy inflected subgenre of folk music — you know, tales of hobbits and Tatooine all done up with acoustic stylings. But filk is also heavily associated with the 1960s hippie generation, and nerdy rockers these days need something that has a more millennial feeling. Enter Trock, or Timelord Rock. It's all about Doctor Who, and it's a lovely smashup of emo shoegazing and electronic zoom.

Spoilers for Blink, which even non-Doctor Who fans should seek out and watch because it is that damn good!

This actually was a rather interesting episode. Very, very unique, and that's saying a lot considering Dr. Who itself is pretty damn unique.

Speaking of "Filk"...

Here's four excellent examples of Filk, performed by touring artist Tony Fabris:

Video: Comfortably Dumb

Video: Fifty Ways to Change the Movie

MP3 Audio: Max Rebo Band

MP3 Audio: Losing My Connection

WOW, amazing video. Amazing ep, even. :D

Yeah, I've always thought so. Actually, Tony has partnered up with a gal and the duo sing together at various different local venues. You know, someone should tell Russant about them (if anyone here still is in contact with that big lug!) and tell him to find them and check 'em out.
