A "Making of" special airs today on US syndication. WGN seems to be the main US broadcaster, and most of us have that on the cable dial.

Legend of the Seeker is a live-action weekly television series based on The Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind. Distributed in domestic syndication by Disney-ABC Domestic Television, ABC Studios is producing the series, which is its first foray into broadcast syndication,[1] with Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert, Joshua Donen, Ned Nalle and Kenneth Biller serving as executive producers. It is scheduled to premiere on November 1, 2008.[1]

The series, which is being filmed in New Zealand, follows the epic journey of a young woods guide named Richard Cypher (played by Craig Horner) and a mysterious woman named Kahlan Amnell (played by Bridget Regan) to stop a vengeful wizard from unleashing an ancient and terrifying power.

Just saw a preview of this the other night when I was out. First -- and indeed, only -- thing that came to my mind is that this is a wanna-be rip-off of LotR.

Then again, I'm no big fan of most television, so my views may be somewhat skewed.

I'm looking forward to this-I've never actually read anything by Terry Goodkind SO I won't be comparing this to the books....

Best wishes,

That's good, because it is nearly unrecognizable as the same story!

Well... late to the game, but an interested player, nonetheless...
I saw re-runs on our local abc affiliate... I was stunned and amazed, cause I'm a fan, but never heard a word about it. I didn't hear, cause I didn't have cable till last summer, but--

The show is well made. It bears only a resemblance to the books in the original quest, the names, and the players- and vocabulary. The stuff they crammed into 21 episodes is an astonishing feat. So, much like Harry Potter- or any of the Michael Chriton movies, a whole bunch got left on the editing floor as they wrote the scripts.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!

When I say well made- they did some delightful special effects. They did some fair construction of creatures, but it seems to me, they left out whole books in the interest of maintaining the arc of the original quest. Richard, with the death of Lord Rahl, should be named the new Lord Rahl-- but we have lost his time in the work camps... the sculpture... his search for Kalen... lots of stuff missing. They did keep in Dena... her death/resurection...but where does she begin to follow and protect Lord Rahl... Where are the sisters of light, or the Dark sisters???? Big chunk of the support of the evil Rahl...

Oh, well. They got to the end, in case they weren't picked up for season 2. But what are they gonna do for 2???
And what the hell station can I find it on??? I haven't seen a promo anywhere. I don't watch every channel. I've found most shows, like Drop Dead Diva, or the Cleaner due to talk shows I picked up totally on accident.

LotS is a syndicated show.
It does run new episodes on WGN out of Chicago, which is on most cable basic lineups in the USA.

I think it would be a thing I could catch on WGN as well as a local station.

But I had to give up on the show, because they kept on sending it out with a content restriction flag that kept me from getting a complete copy of it recorded. The flag would kick in during a commercial, and ruin a few minutes of programming, so I quit watching as a protest and disgust measure.

Loved the Season 1 Finale.
Can hardly wait for Season 2.

Yeah- the finale reminded me of Star Trek Next Generation's "Inner Light" with Picard aging on the planet.
It was neat to see the time leaps back and forth, as well as finally seeing Darken Rahl eliminated. I'm glad that arc won't be going several seasons long!

Really? Did you read the books?

It wasn't so much Rahl... as his insidious methods... walkin in folks dreams... developing the dark sisters... and then there was the real darkness... that was trying to get out of its prison.
I think... gee. I hope I'm not crossin' stories, but I don't think so.

Having just finished the last known to me novel... Phantom, there is still much more to the story. They covered a good five novels in one season. That just seems real thin to me. Kinda like the movie industry. Which, when the point is made... is why the series should have been the venue to be more complex.

The difficulty I see would have been the size of the ensemble... which would have gone from the core five to a core of roughly... 25. Now, some of the better medical or legal shows do manage to juggle that size core. Heroes did it. It wasn't just the heroes we knew, but their nemeses, back stories, etc. The legend could have been such a show... but it would have been outrageously expensive for a first season. Now... some of the most exciting things did get covered... the Mord Sith...for one. However, the White Tower... while implied, was not introduced, and the 'mythical valley' -- none of that was in the novels. However, The White Tower did train women with the gifts of magic... healers, seers, etc. Men with magic were ... um, this part I'm shaky about... I fear I need to go back and read the series again, but... if they're gonna gut it... I might be better off not freshing my memory.

I didn't read the books, but I didn't care much for the actor who portrayed Rahl. Good riddance I say.

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhh....
Actually, I thought he was delightfully creepy. Right down to his fingernails. I know that there is more than one type of hand... but his nails looked vaguely claw-like, even though short. To me they were a perfect touch.

I would have preferred their coloring to be closer... but the different mothers would explain that.
Find the time, read the books... he really is a hell of a tale spinner... and man, does he draw characters well...

Do any of you read Robert Jordan? And did any of you really read all of Goodkind's books? Because this series of books(while I gave up in disgust after three episodes, because it barely followed the books), wasn't that bad, but was a blatant ripoff from RJ, he started writing after RJ did, and is an arrogant toerag. Just my two cents on the author btw. The books were fair to middling as they go, I lost interest when it got to the chicken being possessed by the Lurk.. Really a chicken? I loved the first book Wizard's First Rule and, Faith of The Fallen, and most of the last book.. The series, eh not so much.. they left out too much, making it really hard to follow, not allowing you to really get into the story, or understand why Richard was the way he was, or why he did the things he did...

Like I said, just my two cents worth.. You want a story with real meat, (although RJ does suffer from some bloat in the last two completed books) read his Wheel of Time series, it's being completed by Brandon Sanderson, The Gathering Strom is due out in November of this year.. First book I am excited about in years! Oh and George RR Martin's A Game of Thrones on HBO is coming soon! More quality work, from yet another slow poke author!

I did / do read Jordan... and Goodkind kinda has a place in my heart... cause it turns out he's a local boy. However, I still consider the two tales, altho there are some glaring resemblances... they pull far enough apart that I'm ok with more than one universe with the long drawn-out quest...

I adore Wheel of time lore... And Moddessit...(sp?) and Rowling... et al. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief.

However, while I concur that the show has butchered the novels, that they ended up on TV is a boon. That the fantasy is in production is a good thing, and for that, I'll support it. I'm ok with different kinds of vampires, different takes on roboticists... the world of fantasy can make space for all comers. I read Stephanie Meyers' The Host, too. I liked it... mind, it is a "invasion of the body snatchers" re-worked... but that IS a good thing. Ideas shouldn't go static.

I rarely wander out of my usual thread, but I was very excited to see that there is a thread for Legend of the Seeker. I'm a latecomer to the television series and I've never read the books, but love the show. It's a great escape.

Season 2 premiered last week. As was mentioned in an earlier post here in this thread, WGN out of Chicago is carrying it. To see if a local channel in your area is carrying the show, you can look at the official website and enter your zip code. Hulu is on an 8-day delay to post the episodes.

Thanks for bumping this. I'd forgotten this thread was here!

How about some bombs, because I've bombed the hell out of this show?

Buckeye,
Have you seen all of Season 1? Mr. Hero and I did a great series of bombs for the finale, but I don't want to post them if you haven't seen it.

So, Mr. Hero and I mocked the Season 1 finale mercilessly. We joked around about what homelife must have been like for Rahl and Kahlan, and the next thing I know, Mr. Hero is making one of his famous puns, which led to the following insanity.
