Well, let's see...

All Creatures Great and Small (only seen a little of it, though)
Are You Being Served?
Benny Hill
Connections / Connections2 (actually met James Burke once, what a neat guy!)
Doctor Who (old and new)
Space: 1999

So, as you can see, most of what I've seen is pretty old-school.
RaiderDave2112
Have you seen any of the newer stuff, ie Spooks, New Tricks, well I'm sure there is a load of stuff on BBC America.
DarthMarley
The old Dave Allen Show is much better than Benny hill.

The leftist jabs thrown in BoneKickers really pisses me off and makes me think that the UK must be filled with self-hating liberal idiots, just like the coastal regions in the USA.
Hard to believe that the creators of LoM chuurn that shit out.

Forget the leftist jabs, its the crap portrayal of archaelogy that bugs me.

LOVE BBC shows both TV and Radio

Very annoying that they are so hard to get a hold of here.

From way back some favourites:

Man about the house
All creatures great and small
Duchess of Duke Street
Flambards
The Good Life
Antiques road show
Brideshead revisited
Danger UXB
Cadfael
What’s my line?
Life on Mars
Fawlty Towers
The Flame Trees of Thika
Yes Minister
Pride and Prejudice
Sense and Sensibilities

Tons of BBC documentaries or history stuff

Currently:
Ashes to Ashes
Torchwood
Robin Hood
Relocation Relocation
Location Location Location
A few other British home and garden shows

I’ve seen many others too: Coronation street, The Office, Coupling, Black Adder, To The Manor Born, The Tripods, Upstairs Downstairs, I Claudius, Are you being served.

A couple of radio comedy shows I’ve listened to recently

Double Income No Kids Yet – I WANT MORE!
Potting On

I don't like Monty Python and I did list Black Adder tongue.gif But thank you for calling me a youngster wub.gif

Oh and I forgot the food shows! Like Jamie Oliver
BitsyBoo
BBC News
Yes, Minister
Yes, Prime Minister
Black Adder
Neighbors
Virtually anything that starred Rob Green (I'm not sure if I have the name right. He was the detective in the Touching Evil Series)
I've watched so many BBC productions over the years on Masterpice Theater that I'll never be able to get them all down, plus I'm horrible with names

I love British comedy dry wit. No one else does it better. Also, I like the fact that their dramas as adaptations of a book are usually done with the idea of bringing forth the author's intent. In Hollywood, everyone wants to put their own twist on it, and by the end it often doesn't resemble the book at all.

Meh, You hid Black Adder on your horizontal list, after diverting me with your vertical list.

I'll forgive you for not liking Monty Python. I suspect you "Just don't get it."

*Ducks and scampers behind the couch! A muffled voice continues...*

And, while I'm not gonna compare birthdates with you, you're clearly one of those fortunates whose mind and soul are not in bondage to the calendar; you're as young as you live, and you seem to enjoy play and fun far too well to ever be "old."

Phew!

I am way too playful for my calendar age I either get accused of being drunk when I'm sober, or people think I'm younger than I am (at least they used to lol)

Hmmmm, wow. I completely miss Upstairs, Downstairs. My mum got me turned onto Jekyl (?) is it called, but I've yet to see the whole series. Life on Mars was great. I'm currently enjoying Robin Hood.

Oh, and Jamie Oliver is the bomb diggity. I used to watch Changing Rooms. Laurence was my favorite.
MikeTheC
Oh, and Lovejoy. Who could forget Lovejoy...

Dave:

I don't even subscribe to full cable tv (just minimum basic, about $13/mo.) and I'll possibly drop that in a year or two. Just have to see how things go.

But, there's always The Internet... *wink wink, nudge nudge*

EDIT: Oh shit, yeah, forgot to list Monty Python. Definite Monty Python fan. It's amazing how much it's impacted the world-wide entertainment industry. The effects even permeate other aspects of our global culture. Unwanted unsolicited email? Yeah, let's call it "Spam"... Heh heh heh...

I don't know how it is in the US, but in the UK your TV license gives you the BBC channels and channels ITV1, Channel 4 and channel 5 are free and there is about 40 other freeview channels which need a digital set top to receive which as it is a one time payment isn't bad.

Last Restaurant Standing = I dig it, and it makes me hungry.

The BBC is a public utility, and is therefore supported through taxation. No such model exists in the U.S.

In the U.S., with the exception of pay-per-views, in principle you don't really pay for channels so much as you pay for access to channels.

In standard cable television operations, you have "Minimum Basic" which includes local on-air broadcast channels and several cable-only channels. Tier 1, which is what most people think is minimum basic, expands on the first group and adds something in the viscinity of about another 40 channels. There is also generally a Tier 2, which now has probably been replaced by the whole of the digital tv range, and probably equates to a hundred odd channels, maybe more. You can also pay for certain premium channels. Some cable companies put them in blocks, others give you premiums on a channel-by-channel basis.

I don't watch tv. My mom does, so we have minimum basic so she can watch soaps, a couple game shows, night-time dramas, the news, etc. My "entertainment" at home, such as it is, consists of doing computer-related stuff, and sometimes things around the house. Small, boring life, I suppose. Probably have a small, boring death. "But," as Zathras says, "at least there is symmetry."

Well, there is a comparable utility in PBS and, to a lesser extent, NPR. So, yes, the model exists, it's just not popular, nor is it (or was it) mandatory.

By the way, add Dragon's Den to my list.

Oops, then the show wasn't neighbors. I am horrible with names. It was a comedy about a couple who tries to do self-sufficiency, and the neighbors who are very traditional. I think it was in the 1970s or '80s.

I still love the Chartered Accountancy sketch from Monty Python, and love they got away with frontal nudity on BBC tv in the 1970s.

You mean "The Good Life" with Richard Briers, Felicity Kendal as the couple who went self-sufficient and Penelope Keith and Paul Eddington as their traditional neighbours.
RaiderDave2112
Also they are doing a 40th anniversery celebration of the series "Dad's Army" which is one of those series which never seem to go off the air, which in the case of Dad's Army is a good thing.
RaiderDave2112
Wolfie are you going to get the first series of Spaced I'll ask the question here so it doesn't get lost in the background of Rank Structure, and this is a thread about Brit TV, so makes sense all round then.

I ask because the new series starts tomorrow on BBC 1

Apparently there is going to be a US version of Who Do You Think You Are? if they can get enough celebs to agree to do the show.

I love most of the old BBC shows that have been mentioned. For new shows my list is:

*Doctor Who
*Torchwood
*The Sara Jane Adventures (which is really very silly & geared for a much younger audience, but I don't care)
*Robin Hood... although I am pretty POd that they killed Marian, how can you have Robin Hood without Maid Marian?!?!
*Primeval... the FX is a little hokey & I have only seen 2 shows, but it has potential
*Top Gear...I'm not a motorhead or anything, but this show is hilarious!
*Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares
