I looked, I swear, so if this is a duplicate topic, please don't shoot me!

Figured here is a place to talk about the wonderful characters invented by Jim Butcher...

Well... I thought I saw one, too... but cannot reproduce it.

I'm a big fan... just finished the Alera (?) series... young kid as non magical in a magic world??? Very well written, would be good for a lot of my students... if they would read.

I finished the last, White Night, about four months ago.
Now.
I have to wait.
I hate waiting.

Not that it matters.
I really wish there were a faster way to get books into print. [then I'd complain about the quality and the editing errors...]

Butcher has created a delightful world.
I must confess, however, I didn't read his stuff till seeing the tv show... and now and for ever, the image I have of Dresden will be that dark lanky, deep faced charmer they cast.
I am crushed they cancelled it.
I spend a lot of time crushed.

They didn't make the TV show faithful enough to the books.

If they treated Dune that way, it would never have gotten the viewers it did.

Also, the Earthsea, and Flash Gordon bits suffered from the same problem.

I agree. I felt that Paul Blackthorn was a fabulous Harry and I really enjoyed the actor that played Bob, but because it was television, Bob couldn't be as cool as his book self.

I was enjoying Murphy on the tv show. Even though she wasn't blonde, I felt she played the role well.

Now that leaves Morgan. He was supposed to be medieval knight-ish. I don't think who they cast fit, but he played it the best way he could *shrugs*

I love the books. I'm very invested in these characters and can't wait to read more. I'm currently on number...six. I plan on reading up the mini's online as well.

There are also Dresden Files audiobooks, narrated by Buffy/Angel alum James Marsters (Spike):

I read the latest Small Favor in the last three days. Why, oh why, can't he write them that fast?

The books are great!

This was a pretty good show, but unfortunately shows on skiffy have a high mortality rate.

As much as I adored the casting of Dresden, I could see Marsters as Dresden...

I was stunned to find he was NOT a brit... I mean, I get the whole "accent" skill of actors, I are one... but he was just so delightful... both as the prissy son and the screaming maniac... that I assumed (I am aware of the danger) that they'd chosen a Brit to play the role. I mean, it isn't like there aren't any available.

In his interviews... I would be able to see him as Dresden easily. I like Marsden... and he is pretty to look at, to boot...
Which I appreciate.

I sall look or them... and I thank you, once again Ray, for some of the shiniest links ever.
Blessings!

I've never done any statistics on skiffy shows, but I suspect that around 70% of the new programs they put on the air end up being cancelled.

If I were a producer skiffy would be my last stop to sell a show.

Minis???????
What minis?
Where?

I do love the characters... and The world of fairie is (Nevernever) much better in my head than even SciFi's special effects can manage.
There's a lot that would mesh with some of the other writer's worlds... too... so, I have visions of Harry bumpin into either Anita or Bella... Or even Sthephanie Meyer's Bella....and Edward... could be very interesting. And fun, but Anything of Butcher's I can get my hands on... mmmmmmmmmm... tasty treats!!!

I became a fan of the books because of the TV show and love both versions. I could definitely see where the people who were book fans could find lots to quibble about, so I advise any friends I have who aren't familiar with the Dresdenverse to watch the show and then read the books so they can enjoy both freely and without (too much) complaint, as I have.

I was a little skeptical about the Codex Alera series, it sounded... well, not quite up to what I had come to expect from Jim Butcher. But, I ran out of things to read a few weeks ago & decided to pick up the first book. I have now read all three books that I own twice & am eagerly awaiting the delivery of the next book, which I even bought in hardcover because I just didn't want to wait.

Oh, as for James Marsters, I agree that he is fantastic & I suppose he could have dyed his hair to be Harry, but even with platform shoes he could never be tall enough. James Marsters is pretty short & Harry just has to be really tall & lanky. I think they made a very good casting choice when they found Paul Blackthorne, even if he was a bit older than Harry is written.
Sir Realistic
I'm an unabashed and unashamed Dresdenphile. And hullo, Sil!

On to book 4 now... biggrin.gif

Huzz00t! Hiya Sir!!!! *hugs*

Jim Butcher writes some great books!

And damn skiffy to the innermost circle of hell for never keeping the shows with potential around long enough! Grrrrr...
