Just finished watching Episode 2 AtA. If Alex doesn't stop the psychobabble soon I may lose interest otherwise a truly Brilliant Show. Her dialogue only is horribly written, she comes off sounding like a Bureaucratic Pshrink of the worst kind Everyone else is well written.

But she is a hostage negotiating psychologist.
8 eps of A2A will not likely be enough, no matter how bad it is.

If I was holding a hostage, and she was negotiating the hostage would be flat out of luck, Beautiful woman awesome actress, the writers are killing her and she STILL almost pulls it off, slightly better writing and she pulls the show through the roof and into low orbit. Then the Gene Genie will take it the rest of the way to the moon.
It now appears that the popular BBC television show “Life on Mars” won’t only see a remake in the United States under the tutelage of “The Practice” and “Boston Legal” guru David E. Kelley, but will also be making a splash in Spain.
Spanish terrestrial broadcaster Antena 3 TV will provide its own version of the high-concept cop drama with the title “Vida en Marte.”
Most of the action will take place in 1978 Madrid. The show will be shot on location in that major city, but also on locations throughout Spain. Like the U.K. original the stories will center on the life of a time-travelling police detective.
It is scheduled for a primetime appearance sometime during the 2009 television season.
I really hate the idea of D E KELLEY ruining the show, Just show the fucking show !!!!!!

AtA episode 4 continues the trend of the show getting better every week. Chris becomes a SNAG and Alex really starts to connect with where she is.

I can't say I'm a fan of this double standard where it's portrayed as being "ok" for a woman to slap (let alone punch) a man but not the other way around. I think it is just as wrong for a woman to do this as a man and I don't like movies or tv constantly showing this as acceptable behaviour from a woman.
I'm starting to understand how it is that her parents got blown up in a car though.
I'm unclear though about this idea of conspiracy, conspiracy is about having a secret plan or plot to comit a crime. Governments keeping certain actions or decisions from the public I'd think is pretty common and in some cases logical but hardly constitutes a conspiracy.
When the Canadian government was involved in rescuing a group of 6 US embasy members in Iran back in 1980 the government couldn't very well blab what they were up to.
Then again I could ask why it is that the US government has taken over an Canadian International port up the coast from me on Canadian soil and yet there is no word of this in the news or issued by my government.

8 episodes is all. A Second Series is almost certain. Latest episode continues the trend it just gets better, I was upset that Alex has relapsed into psycho babble and isn't going with the flow anymore. It was still superb.

Just 8 eps this season.
Looks like S2 is a go with an option for S3 though.
Pre-air media critic reviews of the final S1 episode seem positive.
In the Name of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, is nothing sacred, why do they need to remake a excellent show like Life On Mars?
From the clip it looks like the producers of the remake aren't going to keep the viewers guessing about what is going on, taking one of the strengths of the orignal and getting rid of it, wonder what else the have gotten rid off

Bad news for the remake is good news for fans.
Word is that ABC is panicking, and taling of replacing everyone except lead actor.
Much like Bionic Woman last year, the wheels are coming off of the cart.

Remaking British show's has been going on ever since I can remember. I would guess it's all about money, cashing in on a good thing. They did it most recently with The Office. The first one I recall was "Man about the house" a British Comedy that became known here as "Three's Company" I LOVED Man About the House but after you had seen it it was impossible to like Three's Company.

Man About the House was a British sitcom starring Richard O'Sullivan, Paula Wilcox and Sally Thomsett that was broadcast for six series on ITV from 1973 to 1976. It was made by Thames Television, and two spin-offs were later made: George and Mildred and Robin's Nest. In 2004, it came 69th in Britain's Best Sitcom. The series was remade in the United States as Three's Company in 1977.

The thing about remaking Life on Mars is that the entire series is only 16 episodes long, 2 series of 8 episodes each, which is usually about the length of a British serial, for the US market they are probably going to have to make more episodes per season, which means that unless the writers are very good or they are the orignal team, then it will most likely suffer quality wise.

Just seeing the pilot trailer, and how they just lifted the script tells us there is no hope for the US version being any good.
All in the Family is a knock off of Til Death Do Us Part, and so on.
There is nothing wrong with a show being derivative, but this is a perverse extreme. Just show the original version!

Well I have just seen the first episode of the US version of life on mars and it was crap compared to the orignal. The US version was more in your face leaving nothing for the viewer, and the acting was like the cast were sleepwalking through their scenes, the plot was basicly the same with one or two differences due to different policing methods in the US and UK.
The episode came off as Bleegh, all in all not a good start hopefully it won't last long and they will have to show the orignal.

I hate this remake, but I think it will have legs in the US.
The lead male looked like he came from the Katee Sackhoff School of Acting.
The woman playing Annie was competent and photogenic, but had none of the 70s innocence the role required.
No real replacement for Chris Skelton means not so much heart and comic relief.
My wish is that the series bombs and they are The Middleman in its place!
We already had an American version of British time-travel show Life On Mars — it was called Journeyman, and it ruled for the half season it was on the air. Sadly, someone decided we needed a literal cover version of Life On Mars, and we wound up with a shadow of the Brit version, as you can see from this side-by-side comparison of one of the most disturbing sequences from the original.

I read on wiki, that as well as a cast change, they are also relocating the series to New York.
Darth I reckon that reviewer hit the nail on the head when he said there was no chemistry between any of the cast, unlike the orignal this cast was very wooden.
Hopefully the second pilot will suck as well and the studio will dump the idea.

The production team behind LoM and AtA have got a new series out Bonekickers which starts next month on the BBC, its about a group of archelologists who work in the Bath area, which is a place in the UK. From the promos it looks interesting.
