A friend of mine loaded WoW onto his brothers computer. His brother got the game a while back as a gift, but was still hooked on Runescape. Anyway, they loaded it up and my friend thought it was cool, so he loaded it up and got hooked. Now I got it loaded and I'm hooked! I wish I had more time to play, as I need to build up closer to them so we can quest together, but they keep playing! And, I've got stuff to do around the house! I guess it makes for a good incentive to do stuff, then play the game as a reward.

I had no idea this game was as huge as it was. So many places, so many quests, so many servers... my God!

Anyway, I've downloaded and printed a map of Orgrimmar, the large Orc City, just because I could never remember where anything was! And, I've set up a Teamspeak server, so we can chat while questing. Never done that before. I hope the quality is good.

Players are crazy! I ran by a pair of players chatting on the road, and as I went by I emoted /train (My Orc made a train whistle noise and pretended to pull a whistle cord), and they must have thought it was funny, because one of them spelled me with "Arcane Intellect", which gave me an intelligent boost for like 60 minutes or something (Too bad I was only going back to sleep).

I got online at lunch to help my daughter fix her characters staff (Human Female Mage). A couple of guys ran by, but stopped to check her out (She IS cute) and I couldnt' help but flirt with them. next thing I know they asked if I wanted to join their guild! HAHA!!! I turned them down, but I did manage to find out how to fix the wand (blacksmith, right?) and get her character back in action.

lol homie, this is how it starts...

BEWARE!!

lol i was ever crack addicted for years... and i just reloaded it (DEAR GOD IVE LOST IT)

just remember you flirting with people with your little ones toon might embarrass her later!!

bad daddy!!

always tell them youre really a dude!
Darth Kat
*Stands up* I'm a former Evercrack addict as well. Quit while you can Homer! It's Eviiiiillllll. Yeah, I know it's WoW, but it's all the same to me.
Rowan
I have absolutely no idea what you people are talking about! unsure.gif
Homercidal
You EverQuest people need to get on WoW! It's unbelieveable! I set up a Teamspeak server on my Linux box, and now my party can TS while we quest! Go get signed up, we need healers!

Yeah, I know about the online preds thing. I've already talked to her about it, and I plan on being there while she plays. Only thing is, she's playing on my account, so we can't play together at the same time. She might start up her own acount and use allowance money.

LOL! I shold hav ehad her name her character '13_yo'... on second thought.... =/
Darth Kat
I tried WoW for a month and I didn't really care for it...It seemed just like EQ. I might get back into MMORPGs next year when Stargate Worlds comes out. I'll probably try to keep track of it during the beta trials to see how well it's doing.
Mazzy
its hard for me to consider changing when i have so many EQ toons with so much time amassed.

lol but i did try it a couple weeks ago i had a troll shammie with ROCKIN hair (and tusks) i think we got her to level 4 maybe 5 ...

we shall see.

which server you on Homie?

have i said i tend towards healers or are you plugging and trying to boss people around?

(lol i do tend to play healers)
Aeri1
As an ex-Evercrack super junkie I must tell you that your spouse will grow angry about the time that you will spend in the endless pursuit of the endgame. And your kids will resent your computer time. Run while you can!!! I tried a lot of the RRPG's out there and nothing will give you the same rush as the time you can spend with your family instead of the computer.

I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but I'm talking from experience. I almost lost everything I love because I was addicted.

Get out now and save yourself and your family!
Darth Kat
I miss my toon Jeyna Orcfighter (EQ and WoW). Oh well, I'll just have to make Jeyna III in Stargate Worlds. ninja.gif

I'm on Madoran, and I'm not pushign people around, but we really could use a real healer.

Aeri1, I completley understand game addiction, and I do not suffer from it. Firstly, I realize that there is no endgame in WoW. I do not get a kick out of living in a virtual world like so many others do. I enjoy the game for the fact that it can be a long-term game, but that I can take it at a reasonable pace and log in to go for that next little acheivement at any time.

I got things to do around the house, so I can use the game as a means of incouraging me to get them done and play as a reward. Also, I do not think that playing a game is anywhere near as much fun as being with the family, but it usually is more fun that staring at the TV watching a show I couldn't care less about. And, it's not nearly as much fun as working on my cars, which i'll be able to do more of once my garage is built.

Since the wif eis having some kind of party this weekend, I'm taking my older up to the UP for some sightseeing. Soo Locks maybe, Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, or whatever. Should be fun. I'll probably miss my chance to level up closer to my buddies, but oh well...

For some reason space games don't appeal to me much. I prefer the fantasy settings. Never played Everquest, so can't compare, but WoW is so huge, it's amazing! So many quests and features. I'm trying to learn Fishing and Mining and Engineering. Still tyring to figure out how it all works.

Too bad my wife has no interest in games. We dont' even play our Wii like I thought we would. My friend's whole family is into WoW, except his older kid, who thinks there is too much reading involved.

lol i was teasing you Homie!

i find that i am more motivated to play when my "friends" are on than when they werent which is essentially why i quit playing EQ2 killed our guild as some of us wanted to try it and others did not or tried and their systems couldnt take it.

i think its a great way to do something fun with family/friends

i did however find that i tended to obsess over some aspects such as trying to keep level with my boys.

and well being a girl, i always wanted the COOL looking armor.

*wink

i met some really cool people and i also met some Krezzy scawy scumbags and i got hit on as if i really am a six foot tall blond with pointed ears and the ability to bring you back from the dead with all your experience intact.

lol
Homercidal
LOL! I know that I can never keep up with my friend and his brother. His brother is leveling up as fast as I am, and he's 10 levels above me! While I'm planning a trip to the UP (if my daughter gets over her illness today) my friend is planning on playing most of the weekend. I'll just have to live with being a lower level. There are so many ways to advance, with little quests, large raids, talents, etc. There is always something to shoot for, even if you only have a little bit of time to play.

I'm still tryign to figure out how to learn to shoot a bow. I can't buy one from the bowyer for some reason, and the only ones I find from killing creatures are broken! My friend is the same class and race, and he already had a bow by this time!
Mazzy
is there a market place? or action channel? lots of times vendors dont have the best stuff anyway. the weapon probably has to match your level and be the right alignment ? lol i dunno in EQ only certain combos could use certain things and the earlier levels were locked out of the vendor options (unless they sucked) so it takes getting to know the economy and how to find stuff for your combo that you can use.

i always bought from player characters and there was a search function for the bazaar (auction house) that allowed you to see only the items you could use if you set the class/race parameters.

but in game as in RL i really dont like shopping so i let my "suitors" bring me things lol for some reason dudes seem to really like to shop in those games.
Homercidal
I shoudl be able to use a bow. My friend is the same as me and was using one before got to my level. Apparently I need to find the right trainer and then I can probably find one to buy. Havne't visited the auction house yet, but probalby should.
Homercidal
I friend and I played using Teamspeak last night. His brother didn't have a headset, but played with us. We were using the wrong codec, and sounded like gargling robots, but tonight we should be able to change that and have it sound real good. If I get a chance to play that is. My kids has a weeks worth of homework.
Mazzy
ive not used the teamspeaky things but a couple times for raids.

i really get overwhelmed with the yackity yack but playing healers requires a different focus than the foe so i always found the information even in text raid chats annoying and simply watched the healer channels.

the only time that stuff works for me is single group stuff with your normal 4 or 5 buddies cuz you get into a groove with eachother to the point of being able to talk about the last movie you saw while kicking ass and cleaning up as you go.
Homercidal
That is true. If the fighting is not focused and intense, like in a cave or dungeon, then you can walk around and hack without chatting about the game. hey, are you on my server? I saw a MazzyStar this weekend. Level 10.

My friend stayed up until 4:00 sunday morning. Then he stayed up until 12 midnight last night. This could be a potential problem for their marriage, except his wife made him sign up a second account for her, and they put their son's computer in the kitchen area so she can play with us too. I'd say she's hooked, but when I also tell you that she tore out part of her kitchen cabinet to set up the computer, you'd get the point a little better.

I'd love to see you in-game Maz, if you think you would want to pick it up again.
Mazzy
lol its a poseur ...

i have only played WOW once and the character was Nehli, who is probably dismembered and left for the birds wink.gif

i am having such trouble getting my old games to run because of patches with this stupid Satellite service i probably wont be trying anything new and may have to kill someone over the fact that i cant even play my old games.

i hate satellite, no really i HATE IT.

/sigh

ill probably end up reading ALOT this winter.

Homercidal
Heroes prevented me from doign Wailing Caverns last night. I did get to do some fishing while waiting for the paint to dry in my new room. I caught some fish and a couple of small chests with goodies inside. finished a small quest. mined for some minerals I need to make bombs. Made some bandages...
Homercidal
Well, my buddies decided to do Wailing Caverns last night. I thought we got a late start, but everyone else wanted to try it. I think we started at about 9:30...

My friend's wife played with us, and it was sure nice having a healer around! With three of us pounding their asses into the ground, (and one of us has a critter to help with that too) she could sit back and cast spells and set up healing totems. We didn't finish, and it was 12:30 when we decided to call it a night. I told them we need to start earlier! Some of us have to get up in the morning!

Judging from what I saw in there so far, I can see the need to go back to do some quests and work on some skills.

I'd be standing there after a battle and see our health back up and as far as I know we'r eready for more, so I walk up to the next area and lure them baddies back to the group. I back up and back up, and there is not group! Where in hell did my peeps go?? LOL! So, I'm stuck yelling for help, hoping not to die, and their accusing me of pulling a Leeroy Jenkins! (google it if you dont' know) Swear They were right there a second ago!

I don't play these types of games because I am not a fan of buying a game and then giving them a fee every month to play it.
Homercidal
Maybe, but the fee is reasonable for the amount of game you get. And, you can interact with others, unlike a normal game. The gameplay is ENORMOUS! The size of the world is staggering, and the amount of things you can do and make are unbelieveable!

I've been playing for a couple of weeks, probably more than I should (but I AM still getting stuff done around the house) and am at only level 18 and just barely. You can go up to level 60 until you need to buy the expansion pack, and you can't even purchase a mount until level 40.

There are ungodly number of quests, items, things to kill, things to make/sell/trade.

Plus, you can think of it this way:

1. You are not buying the game to begin with. You get a month free with the game, so it's like paying for the first month and getting the game.

2. If I were to buy a $15 game each month, I could only hope it would be as entertaining as this.

I like the fact that I can go questing, raiding, or just sit back and fish or make stuff. I can go to the auction house and see if there is a cool new weapon or piece of armour, or maybe that one ingredient that I need to make that stuff myself. Yeah, it seems like a ripoff to keep having to pay each month, but as long as I keep enjoying the game, it's well worth the price. Plus, if you decide to cancel, they keep your character on file in case you want to come back later. That way you don't have to start all over form scratch.
russant
Wel they do make games where you can buy it and then play in the world, like guild wars. I have never played it, but my boys have.
Homercidal
WoW is way too much fun. I had to force myself to get off early last night. Luckily it was 'crap on TV' night so my wife watched her shows while I did something else (WoW)!

I was going to work on some quests and maybe do some Engineering stuff (I made some cool goggles that my guy can wear... Stylin!) but my friends were on and we decided to journey to the Eastern Kingdoms and try a cave. We got over there and walked toward the cave, but at one small outpost, my friend accidentally got to close to a guard and was attacked. That made every one of us a target for any of the Alliance people, who promptly smashed our little skulls into the dirt. Then the bastards camped our bodies, waiting for us to resurrect.

We (most of us anyway) waited until the time limit ran out and rezzed back in and got away. We finally made it to the cave, and was looking for the entrance to the "instance", killing the miners all the while. One of us accidentally attacked one of the Alliance peoples pets which set us up for attack AGAIN and we got our butts promptly stomped again. I was just telling my friend's brother he should should turn that creature into a pet, he's pretty cool looking. That was the pet of the other guy!

That's when I left the game. Time for bed. I've been stayign up late too much lately!
Homercidal
They will be surprised when I get online while travelling down to Indiana for the Feast of the Hunters Moon. My friend has a wireless modem set up on his cell phone, and I'm gonna try and play on the road! At least in the motel...
