Think about it in a time of conformity and normality is the order of the structure out comes a series on the BBC that says you're not a number. You're not a clog in a wheel called society. You know it is like Godard's Alphaville but not as well produced but really it is like Alphaville. I don't think there has ever been a series like the "The Prisoner" nor will there ever be a series again the "The Prisoner" becuase the "the Prisoner" asked its audience to look at itself and not just accept TV as a form of entertainment. Which is something no series has done in the same way as "The Prisoner" has done.

I've been trying to find the boxset but no hope. I mean it was campy as hell but still actual essence of the show was beyond it's time. It was really far more introspective into our society than others could hope and plus it has this going for it: Iron Maiden's The Prisoner...
Who is Number 1....

Let me guess you're one of those illegal downloaders? You remind me of the Seminary Students at work that steal sodas from the vending machines but preach the good word!

I just steal the sodas.
To hell with the "good word."
And for the record, I would never, ever, illegally download copyrighted material.

Agree that The Prisoner was one of the greatest television shows of all time, and the final episode was a briliant piece of surrealism
Now this... this... I might make to watch. I don't like to commit to something any more without having seen at least some of it (I think we've all generally felt we've been burned a few times) but this could be quite interesting.

I just finished my Prisoner rewatch project in preparation for the remake which will air sometime in the coming months.
At first, with The Arrival (episode 1) and the first few episodes, it left me a little flat. Not quite as good as I remembered. It struck me as a viewing of The Wall while sober. And in that case, one finds that The Wall, while having some great music and animation, is a recycling of footage that repeats through the final edit. Truly a film that goes better with a buzz.
And I was undoubtedly a stoned teenager when I first watched and loved it.
But after a few episodes, I found that it was as good as I recalled.
And then I was left with the DVD extras and assorted documentaries made over the years for anniversaeries and such.
As it turns out, The Prisoner did not have an ending in mind either when it was filming is single season of 17 episodes. McGoohan swore to the producers that he would have an ending, but at the end, he had to man up and admit that the complexity of the project overwhelmed him.
And yet, The Prisoner maintained its surrealistic overtones throughout, never drigfting into soap opera character exploration. I can compare it to the BSG remake ending, and conclude that this somewhat ad hoc ending stands above the non-ending of BSG.
With The Prisoner giving us the somewhat non-answer of "Who is Number One?" it is still a satisfactory mystery and conundrum in a way that "What is Starbuck?" does not leave in a satisfactory manner.
In summation, I still wish that BSG was more a psycho-drama like The Prisoner than a "character Drama" like "Dallas in space." If BSG had maintained the level of mind-fuckery throughout, I think the ending might have fared better in the judgement of many viewers.

So say we all Darth about BSG vs. THE PRISONER! By the way, what was that about never downloading copyright material? KR

Not about the video... Got a November projection for aire date. Soo... this does look very interesting. Certainly the cast is beyond the pale.
I didn't read any of the synopses. I'll wait to be surprised.

I'm afraid of it being more an homage to Lost than to The Prisoner. ='[.]'=
